Wahyu Handayani SetyaningsihLufi WahidatiWury Dwiwardani

Dayang MarniawasihSukinoSubanriaDodi Mulyadi

Communication between married couples in choosing a contraceptive method is an important part of the continuity of family planning programs. The selection of contraceptive methods involves the role of family planning field officers (PLKB), family planning cadres, and village midwives. The purpose of this study was to determine the communication process between husbands and wives in choosing contraceptive methods in Tunggulsari Village. This study used a qualitative method with a case study design. Data collection techniques included observation and semi-structured interviews conducted face-to-face, with informants selected using purposive sampling. Data analysis utilized Cresswell's data analysis technique, which involves transcribing interview results, reducing data, coding the reduced data, drawing conclusions, verifying data, and triangulating data. The results of the study indicate that communication between spouses in choosing contraceptive methods is quite good, although the participation of husbands is still low. Wives tend to play a more active role in decision-making because they are the primary users of contraceptives, considering personal comfort as well as fears and social stigma associated with long-term contraceptive methods (MKJP). Family planning counselors, family planning cadres, and village midwives play a role in education, counseling, and contraceptive method services. New findings indicate specific requirements for female sterilization services in Rembang District. This study emphasizes the importance of intensive education and local policy adjustments to increase acceptance of MKJP. Additionally, the level of husband participation needs to be further increased so that the use of contraceptive methods is not solely the responsibility of the wife.
Siti Musyarofatul IslamiyahDesy Santi Rozakiyah

Sexual education in the family is a crucial element for sustainable human development. However, in Indonesia, this issue often encounters obstacles due to conservative norms, cultural taboos, and unequal family roles. This study aims to analyze the meaning of sexual education in Indonesian families through the lens of symbolic interactionism, which emphasizes that meaning is constructed through interaction and symbols in daily life. Employing a qualitative approach through Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA), based Systematic Literature Review (SLR), 20 selected scientific articles were examined based on topic relevance and academic quality from Google Scholar and SINTA databases (2015–2025). The findings reveal: the first, the social reality of sexual education in families is hindered by patriarchal bias, parents’ low literacy, and the absence of open communication; and the second, the symbolic meaning of sexual education is transmitted through cultural symbols, traditional narratives, popular media, and non-verbal family communication. The authors argue that sexual education in Indonesian families often appears not as explicit instruction but as implicit symbolic messages that are rich in meaning yet frequently misdirected. The lack of healthy symbolic communication leads children to seek alternative meanings from external sources particularly digital media with the risk of misinformation. Therefore, fostering reflective and symbolically inclusive family communication becomes the key to building a healthy and protective understanding of sexuality.
Rafi Maulana RamadhanBintarsih SekarningrumNunung Nurwati
