Abstract

This study examined the phenomenon of false heroism in the political communication strategies of the Indonesian government, particularly in response to controversial policies in the digital era. It identified the use of savior narratives, constructed primarily through social media and digital platforms, as a dominant tactic to manage public dissatisfaction. Rather than offering substantive policy solutions, the government shaped heroic images that masked deeper structural issues. The research employed a qualitative approach using Jacques Derrida’s deconstruction theory within political and digital communication frameworks. Several case studies were analyzed, including public narratives involving Harvey Moeis and the value-added tax increase. The findings revealed that the government's communication was largely reactive to social media sentiment and lacked proactive policy development. The gap between image and implementation demonstrated a dissonance between public expectations and governmental responses. The study contributed to a better understanding of how digital political communication influenced public trust and institutional legitimacy in Indonesia.
